Director of Operations – Wholesale Seafood

Our client, family run business with 42 years in the fresh seafood industry is looking for a Director of Operations. Reporting to the ownership this role oversees the dispatching of sales orders and inventory management and control.

The position must ensure that all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, and legislation regarding health and safety, food preparation standards, company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times. This position will ensure that safe work practices are being followed. This role will also ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, and discipline. The Director of Operations must possess strong formal and informal leadership skills and sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee the repair and maintenance of the commercial vehicles
• In charge of warehouse maintenance and cleaning including processing room
• Supervise shipping and receiving of orders
• Coordinate local deliveries by loading the delivery vehicles and shipping the orders before the 9am cut off time
• Oversee the collection of fresh air shipments
•Inventory management and organization
• Ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, training, assignment of duties, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions
• To assign schedule to the warehouse team and drivers including weekends, review their hours and submit time sheets for processing payroll
• Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations
• Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and food safety standards
• Ensure that all staff, under your direction, are equipped with and are using the proper personal protective equipment
• Ordering warehouse and processing room supplies after getting approval from the management
• Analyze departmental operations and identify areas requiring improvement
• Conduct weekly meetings with management and give suggestions for continuous improvement
• Quarterly performance appraisals with Management
• OMAFRA: Managing day to day requirements
• Participate in workplace inspections
• Assist Ministry of Labour Health Inspector in their site visit
• Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings
• Assist CFIA inspectors with sampling during field visit and inspections
• Ensure the safety of the products and to lock the freezers when not under supervision
• To work on weekends for shipping and receiving of orders
• To do deliveries if required during busy times
