Quality Manager – Consumer Goods Manufacturing

Our Chicago based client, is a contract manufacturer and copacker for the health, beauty & cosmetics, medical and POP display industries. They are looking for a Quality Manager The scope of this position includes management and performance of the quality assurance and quality control functions of the company and the people that work in those functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Control Protocols

  • Reviews the job documentation for thorough understanding of product specifications, shipment quality conformance standards by the client and any/all AQL sampling requirements.
  • Develops and documents the sampling plan for all new products per AQL tables to meet the product and shipment specifications. Develops the internal sampling and inspection protocols to meet these.
  • Observes and coaches employees on performance to ensure efficiency and compliance with Company standards.
  • Serve as the ISO management representative and ensures that we maintain all of the Company’s quality certifications.
  • Responsible for meeting and maintaining the quality control requirements in accordance with the company’s Quality Control Manual and insuring that the Company passes all required audits to maintain our certifications.
  • Directs and oversee the work and performance of Quality Inspectors.
  • Works directly on all Vender NCR and customer DMRs and CARs incidents, communicates with venders and customers and properly records these events, leads the investigations and work to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that the QC testing and sample retain areas are neat, well-organized and set up for efficient and safe operation.
  • Ensures that all testing equipment/tools are properly calibrated per the manufacturer standards and that these are in proper working order.

Safety

  • Acts as safety coordinator for all Quality staff members and ensures compliance to the Program.
  • Assists in all accident investigations relating to Quality staff as requested.


Human Resources

  • Assists management in recruiting & hiring of QA/QC employees per an agreed staffing plan.
  • Helps develop and conducts training programs for the QA/QC employees as needed.
  • Makes the work assignments for all Quality personnel.
  • Resolves worker grievances consistent with the policies and guidelines of the company.
  • Disciplines and terminates employees within the company’s guidelines.
  • Conducts regular employee performance reviews with subordinates per Company policy.
  • Enforces all Company policies as put forward in the Employee Handbook.


Basis of Evaluation

  • The performance of the Quality Manager will be evaluated on the following criteria:
  • Company ISO certification(s) are maintained and audits are passed.
  • Vender DMR, Customer CARs are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Cost of QC inspections (i.e. time) meets the budgeted time by product to not over-run product costs.
  • Quality equipment are maintained and kept calibrated to be reliable.
  • Maintain safety program standards and lead the facility to achieve safety goals.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years’ experience in ISO quality systems for industrial goods.
  • Understanding of quality protocols and statistical process controls.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with employees.
  • Ability to create and maintain cooperative relationships with employees.
  • Cheerful, helpful disposition when dealing with fellow employees.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Computer skills to create and manipulate Excel reports used in reporting and planning.
