HR Lead

Our Concord client, a family run business with 42 years in the fresh seafood industry, is looking for an HR Lead. Reporting to senior leadership this role will be focused on recruiting, WSIB/EI claims, payroll and health & safety.

Job Duties
• Primary HR contact in the areas of employee relations, change management, performance management, employee engagement and best practices.
• Manage full-cycle recruitment including screening candidates, conducting interviews, processing employment contracts and employee onboarding.
• Manage the annual performance review process with department heads and senior management.
• Oversee personnel management, wage increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
• Run payroll, administer Payworks, setup new employees and electronic filing
• Approve vacation requests, monitor vacation schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
• Lead all Health and Safety initiatives, manage policy updates per provincial legislative requirements including workers compensation claims management & accommodations.
• Member of Joint Health and Safety Committee and participate in JHSC meetings
• Primary contact in the office for first aid injuries, as a licensed first aid practitioner.
• To administer WSIB and make claims in case of workplace accidents and injuries.
• Oversee the orientation/onboarding of new hires and the training of all employees.
• Develop employee training, ensuring all applicable compliance requirements are met.
• Develop strategic performance metrics and targets consistent with company goals.
• Manage off boarding- voluntary and involuntary terminations of employment.
• Administer the group benefit insurance plan and making plan improvement suggestions.
• Develop and update company employment policies and other workplace policies.
• Organize workplace events including company quarterly lunch etc.
• Send group greeting cards, gift cards to the employees on the birthday.
• Administer WSIB and make claim in case of workplace accidents and injuries.
• Ensure employees have clear goals and are aware of expectations.
• Ensure all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards
• Ensure all employees adhere to all health and safety regulations.
• Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations.
• Monitor payroll to ensure compliance with financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.
• Participate in site and workplace inspections.
• Provide leadership and coaching on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development.

Job Requirements
• Minimum three years of experience in human resources or a management role.
• Certification in Human Resource Management.
• Degree or an advanced degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the industry.
• CHRP/ CHRL Designation will be an asset.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and requirements.
• Strong conflict resolution skills.
• Experience administering progressive discipline.
• Experience managing STD, LTD, and return to work programs.
• Experience with coaching and employee development.
• A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and people management skills.
