Recruiting For Less – Recruiting For Less – Our Toronto based client is a private (non-bank) mortgage lender in the business of originating, investing in and administering mortgage loans. They are looking for a Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant to join their growing company.

The role of the Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant, reporting to the CFO, is to manage the day to day accounting and financial requirements of multiple related companies. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

Skills
• Minimum 5 years experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting
• Accounting designation or candidate an asset
• Familiarity with the mortgage industry and/or trust accounting an asset
• Strong computer skills including QuickBooks and Microsoft Office and ability to learn new programs
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and managerial skills
• Strong communication skills both written and oral

Responsibilities:
Financial
• Full cycle bookkeeping including Bank Reconciliations, A/R, A/P, Payroll
• Preparation/review and reconciliation of all daily/monthly financial statements
• Preparation of monthly management reporting
• Daily treasury management and reporting of cash flow positions
• Review and recommend accounting policies & procedures, risk management and internal control improvements
• Preparation of year end Financial Statements and the coordination of the annual audit with external auditors
• Preparation and filing of T5’s, NR4’s, T3’s and other CRA required filings
• Preparation and submission of compliance filings to regulatory entities (i.e. CRA, OSC, FSCO and Insurance companies)
• Management of bookkeeping staff

Mortgage Administration
• Initiate and manage the borrower payment collection processes to ensure timely and accurate collection of payment for all mortgages including interest, taxes fees etc. (complete follow-ups and reconciliation)
• Initiate and manage the Investor payment process including payment of monthly interest and principal distributions, sending regular monthly statement of account etc.
• Initiate and manage mortgage funding process
• Initiate and manage mortgage discharge process including review of discharge statements, receipt and distributions of funds
• Respond to Borrower and Investor financial inquires

Fund Administration
• Initiate and manage the unit purchase and redemption process including the maintenance of unit holder records as well as the monthly distributions to unit holders including the recording of distribution reinvestments, cash distributions and related reporting to investors and third party stakeholders (e.g. RRSP accounts)

Compensation: 60-70k, 3 weeks vacation, Benefits
