Welder/Shop Foreman – Structural Steel

Our client is a medium-sized structural steel fabrication company that is looking to add to a Welder/Fabricator/Shop Foreman to their team. As Foreman your responsibilities would be divided: Hands-on Welding/Supervision 75% and Management 25%.

Job Responsibilities:
• Oversee shop’s activities, including planning jobs and tasks for all departments: precision cutting, fabrication, welding, painting, packing, shipping/receiving, and quality control
• Ensure Health and Safety is maintained for all individuals within the shop and yard
• Confirm budget for shop hours with Estimating team
• Confirm schedule with Project Management team
• Maintain and improve workflow and workstation efficiencies
• Executing and delivering projects on time and on budget
• Provide technical expertise and support to shop team
• Inventory and maintain all required materials and consumables required for shop
• Operate and maintain machinery: forklifts, overhead crane, ironworker, bandsaw, welding machines, drills, torches, etc
• Develop, train and coach shop staff
• Complete required paperwork
Required Skills
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawing specifications, structural drawings, and welding symbols.
• Execute skillful clean continuous welds using MIG welding
• Knowledge of standard concepts, welding codes, practices, and procedures within the structural steel Industry
• Proficient with forklift, overhead crane, ironworker, bandsaw, welding machines, drills, torches
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge and adherence to Health and Safety procedures
• Rigging skills to move large and heavy materials

Qualifications:
• CWB Certified for MCAW
• Valid BC Driver’s License
• Certified forklift operator
• CWB SMAW Certification is an asset
• CWB Certified to weld handrails is an asset
• First Aid Level One is an asset

Own Tools/Equipment:
• PPE including steel-toed safety boots, hardhat, and welding mask
