Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client, a Sarasota FL based multidiscipline product design and development studio servicing a global client base is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join its team. They design & deliver comprehensive speed-to-market product solutions from start-up to Fortune 100 by collaborating to identify the greatest areas of opportunity and producing innovative designs that drive profitable results.

Responsibilities:
• Lead the development of new product solutions from mechanical concepts through production.
• Actively partake in vendors selection and supplier interface to ensure timely delivery of products to ensure meeting scheduled commitments.
• Manage bill of materials against orders and cost tracking
• Coordinate production of prototypes builds and first production build.
• Actively participate in team ideation sessions with our clients and internal design team comprised of Industrial Designers (ID), Graphic Designers (GD), Engineers, and Rapid Prototypers (RP)
• Provide engineering support to other departments (ID, GD, & RP)
• Manage multiple tasks to ensure timely fulfillment of project objectives and deliverables
• Collaborate in the fabrication of mock-ups and prototypes for testing/evaluation utilizing a variety of techniques including SLA, FDM, SLS, sheet metal & machining
• Communicate status of all responsible projects both in writing and verbally both internally and external customers
• Actively participate, coordinate and facilitate design reviews (preliminary and critical)

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in new product development. Design firm environment preferred
• Working knowledge of mechanism & product design that meet functional requirements and are suited for mass production
• Manufacturing experience & knowledge of the following processes
• Sheet metal / Machining / Die casting, investment casting
• Injection molding / Vacuum casting / Vacuum molding / Hardware & fasteners
• Surface treatments, paint, plating, powder coatings
• Strong skills in a standard solid modeling CAD package such as SolidWorks including: 3D models for sheet metal, machining, casting, & injection molding
• Mechanism & large assembly
• Part and assembly drawings with functional tolerances & detailing for prototypes and production
• Advanced modeling techniques and surfacing
• Standard FEA software experience such as SolidWorks Simulation
• Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and excellent communication
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and develop innovative solutions while cognizant of schedule and budget.
