Shop Supervisor – Metal Fabrication

Our west Toronto client, an established import/export firm, is in need of a Logistics / Transportation Specialist to manage the inbound/outbound movement of product. Working with all modes of transportation carriers this role will coordinate shipment schedules and be responsible for a large database of shipping information. This role requires familiarity with the v-lookup function of Excel.

Production Management
• Plan and organize production to ensure an efficient and continuous flow from start to finish
• Resource management; man, machine, and materials to maximize efficiency and minimize production costs and waste
• Read fabrication shop drawings to ensure accuracy prior to production start
• Assist in metal fabrication work; serve as metal fitter as required
• Maintain quality assurance in all phases of production – raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
• Ensure that all production activities are done in accordance with health and safety procedures

Staff Management
• Maintain high morale among all employees by promoting effective HR practices
• Attract and retain qualified employees
• Communicate and enforce company policies and procedures
• Monitor employee performance, take appropriate action as required
• Promote cross training across all areas of production to enhance efficiency and flexibility

Asset Management
• Organize machinery and work areas
• Implement machinery maintenance program to ensure minimal down time and optimal working conditions, coordinate necessary repairs and replacement
• Maintain proper housekeeping practices throughout the plant
• Control shop supplies access; ensure availability for fabrication/installation, avoid waste and loss
• Organize and control inventory to suit efficient production work flow and tracking

Key Measures:
• Ensures that all production jobs are on time for delivery.
• High percentage of acceptance (Low incidence of scrap and rejects)
• 100% Quality Assurance

Qualifications:
• Minimum 10 years of experience in metal fabrication and plant management
• Familiar with all roles and machinery in a metal fabrication plant
