Pension Specialist

Our north Toronto-based client, a major third party administrator of union negotiated benefit and pension plans, is in need of a Pension Specialist. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and an in-depth understanding of the Pension Benefits Act.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with members, employers, union representatives, plan actuaries and custodians regarding benefit entitlements; administration procedures or interpretations of plan provisions.
  • Enrol employees in the pension plan by processing applications and calculations
  • Determine plan beneficiaries’ entitlements under the pension plan in accordance with specific Plan provisions, government legislation requirements and current service standards
  • Maintain up-to-date records both paper and electronic of all transactions processed.
  • Authorize payment of benefit entitlements and plan expenses
  • Preparation of client administration reports
  • Preparation and filing of government forms including Annual Information Returns, etc.
  • Preparation and validation of actuarial data being used in actuarial valuations.
  • Preparation of member annual pension statements.
  • Respond to inquiries or complaints from plan beneficiaries

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in pension administration and direct benefits
  • CEBS designated an asset
  • Strong computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Pension Benefits Act
  • Strong English communication skills (written, verbal)

  • Salary: commensurate with experience
  • Vacation: 2 weeks
