Our San Antonio-based client, one of the top credit unions in the nation, is in need of a Commercial Credit Underwriter to participate on deals from $200k to $30M.

Responsibilities:
• Analyzes financial statements, cash flows, performance ratios, and proformas to develop initial assessments by identifying strengths/weaknesses of a borrower’s past and future performance.

• Completes and reviews commercial loan requests of any loan relationship/request size, including commercial, commercial real estate, and SBA loan members.

• Works with loan officers to prepare written analyses on loan relationships. Including: credit investigations of borrowers and guarantors; economic and market conditions as they relate to the company, industry, and market area; historical financial analysis, and analysis of a guarantor’s financial position and cash flow coverage.

• Attends Executive Loan Committee as required and requires ability to answer questions regarding an analysis of a particular loan proposal. Prepares entire proposal packages as necessary. Serves as back-up committee secretary and prepares the minutes accordingly.

• Collects and maintains industry data; researches industry specific information from outside sources, including conversations with borrowers, industry publications, credit agencies, etc. Presents compiled data and recommends enhancements.

• Establishes and maintains credit files for each relationship. Ensures that member’s credit information such as loan application, financial statements, tax information, credit history from trade references, call reports, and correspondence are incorporated in the credit file, are current, and are obtained in a timely manner. Notifies the loan officer of any violations, and requests follow-up to resolve or waive.

• Prepares and sends out notification letters to customers, signed by the loan officers, requesting updated credit information and financial statements, as necessary.

• Assists in the annual loan review of existing commercial relationships to monitor compliance with loan conditions and credit policy, ensuring that all loan covenants are in compliance. Evaluates loans for changes in risk on an ongoing basis, and makes recommendations on risk rating changes.

• For asset-based loans, ensures that periodic collateral reviews, i.e. audits and borrowing base certificates, are performed in a timely manner, according to loan agreement requirements.

Qualifications:
• 2+ years’ experience as commercial credit underwriter or related experience
• A thorough understanding of fundamental financial analysis including review of corporate balance sheets, cash flows, income statements, business strategy, etc. is crucial for success in this job.
• Experience in determining appropriate credit capacity, structuring of facilities, risk mitigation and contract insight needed.
• Understanding of current macro-economic trends.
• Exceptional analytical and financial analysis skills along with the capacity to quickly learn and apply credit assessment policies and procedures are essential
• Prior individual credit authority within the mid-market transaction dollar range
• The ability to make effective, timely and sound recommendations/ decisions on credit requests
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation:
• Salary: $55 – 65K, Benefits
